MULTIFACTOR AUTHENTICATION FOR CM/ECF AND PACER ACCOUNTS (Posted: Monday, July 7, 2025)
In order to help protect CM/ECF and PACER from cyberattacks that steal passwords, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts has started to implement multifactor authentication (MFA) for Users' accounts. MFA will significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access to Users' CM/ECF and PACER accounts.
CM/ECF Users with filing and all other types of CM/ECF-level access are required to enroll in MFA. Users with CM/ECF-level access who do not voluntarily enroll in MFA will be randomly selected to do so beginning in August. By the end of 2025, everyone with CM/ECF-level access will be required to use MFA when logging in. Users with PACER-only access are not required to enroll in MFA, but they are strongly encouraged to do so.
In order to avoid service disruptions, you should enroll now. Please visit the PACER website for enrollment information.
CM/ECF users utilizing third-party software for filing: Before enrolling, contact your software vendor to ensure MFA is supported.
NOTE: The Clerk's staff, including the CM/ECF Help Desk, cannot assist with your enrollment in MFA.
If you have questions or need assistance with MFA enrollment, please:
Visit the PACER website (https://pacer.uscourts.gov); Contact PACER directly via email to pacer@psc.uscourts.gov; or Call PACER at 800-676-6856.
